Nick Davidson and Shaun Hunt are going through a midlife crisis as far as football is concerned. Now they’ve reached early middle-age they are wondering what has happened to the beautiful game. Where have all the muddy pitches gone? When did proper floodlight pylons disappear? They wallow in nostalgia for 3pm Saturday kick-offs and cup upsets and they rant against inflated egos, spiralling salaries and satellite TV. And they wonder is it really cold enough in September to warrant playing in tights and gloves?

The authors
Nick and Shaun met at Warwick University, where they occasionally studied History. Most of their time was spent playing football and lounging about reading the Daily Mirror.

Nick works as a freelance graphic designer (he designed the cover artwork for Modern Football is Rubbish). Nick studied History and Politics at Warwick University, he then completed an MA in Sociology of Sport at Leicester University’s Centre for Research into Sport and Society.
This is Nick’s second book. In 2002, he wrote Team Shirts to Ticket Stubs: A Visual History of Watford Football Club 1977-2002 which was published by Watford Football Club.
Nick is a lifelong Watford fan and, along with Shaun, plays five-a-side football every Wednesday night. Chasing 18-year-old kids around the football pitch makes him feel very old.

Shaun works as a manager for McDonalds. Nick and Shaun played in the same football team at university, it took them several months to realise they were actually on the same degree course.
Born and raised in Cornwall, supporting Liverpool was the obvious choice. He is now the assistant manager of Cadbury Athletic under-10s. He plays football for the Spleen Team every Wednesday alongside Nick.

"Poignant and thought-provoking book... it strikes just the right tone throughout, somewhere between gentle nostalgia and constructive criticism; has many laugh-out-loud moments yet poses some serious questions..."
Jon Crampin, FourFourTwo magazine

Yet this is not some hectoring tome lusting after times past, more a joyous romp through the features of the game which inspired a lifelong devotion in the thirty something authors.
As such it will provide an ideal Christmas present for any fan over 30, allowing them to while away the festive period in the fuzzy haze of nostalgia.
