Damned Australia

January 8th, 2008

I was going to write about the ban given to Harhbajan Singh in Australia and the subsequent fall out, but then I read David Hopps’ piece in the Guardian (Bowler found guilty but Australia stand condemned) and realised this summed up exactly what I thought.
One of my enduring images of Australian cricket is of Gilchrist not appealing when one of Warne’s deliveries had beaten at outstretched bat (at that point I assumed the Australian wicketkeeper was one of the few “good guys”) only to be berated by the bowler. At the next opportunity Gilchrist joined in an orchestrated appeal. But then I’m told Colin Cowdrey “walked” only when it suited him.
