John Carter grew too big to be a jockey so he turned to cricket instead, rising to Minor County level with Norfolk. An all-round lover of sport, he is a season ticket holder at Norwich City and his first book was based on the US Masters golf tournament.
But he always loved horseracing and this book gave him the perfect opportunity to immerse himself in the Newmarket community. The idea for it came after he had profiled Clerk of the Course Michael Prosser for a local paper.
He lives in the Norfolk countryside with wife Paula and daughter Elisha.
